Local sailing clubs:
Gulfstream Sailing Club
This club is like a "big sister" club since many members of SSSF also belong to this very active group. If you are the racing type you will feel at home though many people are cruisers. I have so many friends who used to sail who say they raced with this group when they were active sailors. Every one has had good things to say about Gulfstream and always use the word fun! In the 20+ years this group has been around most of the commodores are still very involved. Offers beginner sailing classes. gl
Hillsboro Inlet Sailing Club
Serving the Hillsboro Inlet area (northern Broward and southern Palm Beach counties since 1971, HISC offers active programs in cruising, racing, and youth sailing education. In addition our club has several social events ranging from casual after race parties to more formal dinner dances.
Seven Seas Cruising Association
I heard about this group when sailing in San Francisco Bay. My cruising friends said this group goes on the "must check them out" list. Rave reviews of the work they do to communicate and share cruising tips. GL

Not local sailing clubs:
Club Nautique
I sailed with this San Francisco club for years and also know many of the staff persons personally since they used to dogsit for me. Very nice people and most importantly, they are very committed to sailing education. They offer US SAIL courses (instructors in the club helped form the association) and specialized on-the-water clinics. You can charter from them to sail SF Bay, take a trip with a flotilla, or charter your own personalized trip to anywhere. But if you want to experience sailing in the Pacific or learn to handle rough conditions, try them. Many people fly out to do just that! I would still be sailing with them if it hadn't been for the COLD SF Bay and Pacific waters! gl
Olympic Circle Sailing Club
Another of those SF Bay clubs. I took my first American Sailing Association (now US SAIL) classes at this club. Got fed up with a boyfriend hollering at me when we sailed because I didn't know what to do most of the time, I decided to learn for myself in a professional environment. Took Women's Sailing, a 9-5 week long class. One of the best things I ever did and had fun, fun, fun learning. Taught by women and only women in the class (no guy hollering was a big relief!) I finished at the top of the group. It changed my life...I decided to buy my first boat, JoyfulSpirit and went on to learn to singlehand. Ladies, take classes! Don't get stuck on a boat not knowing what to do to get to port when the skipper is out of commission. GL

US Sailing
Sailing can be exciting, invigorating, relaxing, challenging, physically difficult or undertaken with minimum physical strength required. Getting started in sailing is easy! Sailing includes a wide range of boat types. Classes developed for a beginner to start sailing or the experienced sailor who wants to gain for skill are offered in this sail instruction program. Florida located schools certified to teach the US Sailing program are: Shake a Leg Miami, Southern Sailing Academy, Premiere Sailing, Offshore Sailing School, Castle Harbor Sailing School, Annapolis Sailing School, and Florida Keys Sailing. For the teens in your life there is Action Quest. Took many classes in this program series and it was well worth it. You not only gain confidence and skill but you also learn so much to fall back on in the event of an emergency, I cannot sing enough praise for this program. GL
Women's Sailing Association
Dedicated to enriching the lives of women and girls through education and access to the sport of sailing. Check out the week of sailing instruction providing a racing and beginners track on the water at Captiva Island, FL. And the week long program held at various locations in the British Virgin
Islands offering racing and non-racing tracks. Women see my notes for Olympic Circle Sailing Club above. They also apply here. GL

Looking for a great time sailing with a captain and crew for the day? Charter this sailing yacht owned by club member David Snellen. I've been on her a couple of times and it is well worth it. There is plenty of space for your group or business event.
"Get a pirate's view of South Florida. Sail with us as we pry the same waters as pirates of old. Listen as we highlight the life and times of Black Beard and Black Caesar. Hold your ears as we show how pirates would load and fire their cannons. Fun is guaranteed!! Call 305-724-5220 for reservation. Available for private charters." gl
O Solo Mio Singles Tours
This is a travel agency that organizes trips for singles. I have taken two trips with them along with a few other singles I know. We had a great time each trip and they organize a lot of optional events for the group at the different destinations. The most memorable was snorkeling with sea lions at their natural habitat in the Sea of Cortez while on a trip to to Baha, Mexico. They have some great deals you can afford as well as more pricey trips. GL
SeaScape
Our "singles" trips tend to attract the active, get-out-there-and-do-it types. The group dynamics are usually very strong - when traveling solo, people tend to make more effort to get to know one another. If you’re traveling with a partner, but don’t necessarily want to be with all couples (‘cos, well, they can be awfully ‘couple-y'!) - one of our "mostly singles" trips might just fit you as well; the emphasis being on the get-to-know-new-people, fun group spirit. Just let us know what your preferences are, and we’ll do our matchmaking best to put you with the "right" group. Heard from a couple of members that this was a good experience! GL
Single Volunteers of South Florida

Waterfront News
Nice people run this local monthly publication. I like their web site and how you can access the newspaper on the web. Classified ads are not that expensive! Contains local boating news and regular nautical features. Ran an article about the club in January 2004 issue. GL
